What is Industrial Engineering?
Industrial Engineering (IE) is a discipline that combines engineering principles with management sciences. It’s perfect for students with a science background who are also interested in business and dream of leading major industrial companies. You won’t just study manufacturing systems—you’ll also explore factory planning and control, financial and operations management, and human resources.
Why Choose Industrial Engineering?
Interdisciplinary Knowledge
Besides diving into mathematics, physics, chemistry, calculus, and statistics, students also learn about management—especially related to production systems, workplace safety, product development, and system design. The program focuses on resources including people, equipment, energy, materials, and information.
Wide Career Opportunities
Due to its broad scope, IE graduates are highly versatile. They can work in technical fields, HR, industrial systems maintenance, or information system design. With their multidisciplinary knowledge, many go on to occupy strategic roles—such as factory managers or branch directors.
Strong Foundation for Entrepreneurship
IE graduates gain skills in product development and managing human resources—ideal for launching their own businesses. That’s why IE is often seen as a “gateway” to entrepreneurship.
About the Industrial Engineering Program at UPH
UPH’s IE program integrates engineering and business to develop critical and creative thinkers capable of analyzing and designing efficient, human-centric systems. Students learn to optimize the 5Ms—Man, Machine, Material, Method, and Money—across various industries, not just manufacturing.
Specializations Offered:
Supply Chain Management and Analytics
Focuses on system optimization using software and computing, and managing human resources. For example, managing workflows in restaurants to ensure fast customer service.
Additive Manufacturing
Covers robotics, process control, and metalworking. Students learn about industrial control systems and mechatronics. For example, programming machines to screw parts automatically—replacing manual labor with automation.
Core Competencies You Will Develop
- Analytical & Systems Thinking: Evaluate and improve existing systems using IE principles.
- Managerial & Problem-Solving Skills: Tackle performance issues as part of management teams.
- Academic Contribution: Conduct research and assess the economic, environmental, and social impact of engineering systems.
Career Prospects for IE Graduates
IE graduates have numerous job opportunities across industries. Possible roles include:
- Product Developer
- Workforce Manager
